چکیده

An annotated selection of World Wide Web sites relevant to the topics in Microbial Biotechnology Industrial and environmental applications of halophiles Halophiles have traditionally been important in the food industry. More recently, they have become important for the production of b-carotene and ectoine. This paper describes a halophilic lipase that could be useful for the production of eicosapentaenoic acid, or EPA. This abstract describes a useful article on industrial applications of halophiles and it is found within the Encyclopedia of Industrial Biotechnology. This article makes the point that halophilic enzymes tend to be tolerant to thermal and alkaline stress as well, making them very valuable in industry. This report provides an excellent overview of halophiles and includes a section on biotechnological applications of halophiles. This report consists of a brief description of where the field of halophile microbiology was headed in the year 2007. The report describes some of the fundamental features that stabilize halophilic, prokaryotic enzymes at salt concentrations over 1 M. Their denaturation-resistance makes these enzymes useful for many industrial applications. This review describes all aspects of halophiles, including biotechnological aspects. A halophilic Bacillus was isolated from paper mill waste and produced an a-amylase that is considerably more stable that those found in counterparts growing under more typical conditions. This search engine has captured pdf files containing information on industrial applications of halophiles.

Molecular diversity and enzymatic potential of salt-tolerant alkaliphilic actinomycetes

Salt-tolerant alkaliphilic actinomycetes are difficult to isolate as their natural environments are much more different and hostile than laboratory conditions. Due to these limitations, majority of the microbial population remain uncultivated. During the recent years, development and application of molecular techniques, such as; DGGE, TGGE, RFLP and DNADNA hybridization have proved quite valuab...

Salt-induced Changes of Antioxidant Enzymes Activity in Winter Canola (Brassica napus) Cultivars in Growth Chamber

The effect of salinity was assessed on the activity of some major antioxidant enzymes i.e., superoxide dismutase (SOD), peroxidase (POD), catalase (CAT), in the seedlings’ roots or shoots of three winter canola (Brassica napus L.) cultivars, Colvert (tolerant), Symbol (semi tolerant) and Agat (susceptible). Seedlings were treated with 0 (control), 50, 100 and 150 mM NaCl for 24 h in hydropoic c...

The impact of salt stress on antioxidant enzymes, photosynthetic pigments, protein and proline content of Fig cultivars (Ficus carica.L)

The fig, a sub-tropical crop, consumes as a table fruit as well as a dry product. Since, salinity is the serious concern of fig production, during 2016-2018, seven fig cultivars (‘Sabzʼ, ‘Siyahʼ, ‘Shah Anjirʼ, ‘Atabakiʼ, ‘Kashkiʼ, ‘Matiʼ and ‘Barʼ) were subjected to saline water (0.5, 2, 4, 6, 8 and 10 dSm-1). Then, potein, proline, photosynthetic pigments, superoxide dismutase, catalase, guaia...

Preliminary Isolation and Characterization of Halotolerant and Halophilic Bacteria from Salt Mines of Karak, Pakistan

Halophiles are extremophile organisms that thrive in environments with very high concentrations of salt. The salt mines of Karak region, is an extremely saline environment and its microbial communities have not yet been explored. In the present study, twenty one halotolerant and halophilic bacterial strains were isolated from salt mines of Karak region. These strains can grow in media with 5-40...

Industrial and environmental applications of halophilic microorganisms.

In comparison with the thermophilic and the alkaliphilic extremophiles, halophilic microorganisms have as yet found relatively few biotechnological applications. Halophiles are involved in centuries-old processes such as the manufacturing of solar salt from seawater and the production of traditional fermented foods. Two biotechnological processes involving halophiles are highly successful: the ...
